Watsons Retablo. Santos: Christ appears in this elaborate allegory surrounded by the symbols of Passion. God ,the Father, appears above Jesus Christ bestowing a benediction. The sun and moon are usually present in scenes alluding to the astro-phenomenon at the time of the crucifixion when the sky darkened, and the stars and moon could be seen. The Tenebrae also symbolized the sorrow of all sentient beings at the time of his death.

The archangel Michael weighs souls to Christ's right while Mary , Mater Dolorosa" , is to his left. Below them you’ll notice the souls in flames praying, while Adam and Eve are accepting fruit from the tree of Wisdom.

According to the Catholic Church the cross in which Christ was crucified was carved from a tree that was the Tree of Wisdom.
