Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic matching pair of vintage solid brass Newfoundland Dog bookends manufactured by NAFCO (United Nail & Foundry Co.) out of St. John's, Newfoundland.Dating back to the mid-20th century (circa 1940s–1960s), these iconic regional pieces are highly collectible. Each bookend features a proud, standing Newfoundland dog on a rocky base with "NEWFOUNDLAND" boldly embossed on the frontCondition Details:
Authenticity: Both pieces feature the crisp, deeply impressed "NAFCO" maker's mark stamped clearly on the rear of the base (see photos).
Finish: Beautiful, authentic aged brass finish. They retain their original, untouched vintage patina in the crevices, highlighting the texture of the dog's coat. (We have left them unpolished as collectors prefer this, but they can be polished to a bright gold shine if desired).
Underside: The original green felt padding is still intact on the bottom of both pieces to protect your shelves or desk from scratches.Extremely heavy and sturdy, these make excellent structural bookends or statement paperweights for a study, library, or office.
