I have for sale a new hilt assembly off one of the large two-handed swords that are typically referred to as claymores. Materials consist of an alloy guard and pommel, some exotic form of dark gray, nicely-grained wood, and the steel rat-tail assembly that holds it all together. The rat-tail assembly, which passes through the guard, haft, and into the pommel, is about 9 1/2" long, threaded 1/4-20 at the pommel end. Pictures show the hilt as part of the original sword, assembled as you will receive it after cutting the blade off about an inch from its base, and the disassembled parts, arranged in the order you assemble them (blade stub and rat-tail, guard, haft, steel washer, 1/4-20 nut, and pommel, the pommel being threaded 1/4-20 on the inside. The blade stub measures 1 1/2" wide, 5/32" (4mm) thick, as a reference as to how well the buyer's sword blade will fit.
There are minor scuffs, as the hilt as part of the entire sword was delivered to me; everything should clean up well. Obviously, either the rat-tail provided will need to be welded to the buyer's blade, or the components of the new hilt will need to trimmed and cut to fit the length of the tang of the blade they're being fitted to. I STRONGLY recommend welding experience more extensively hands-on than watching a YouTube video, or seeking the services of someone who has that experience. One of the reasons that rat-tail assemblies have a fairly dismal reputation is that the threaded rod portion is often just tack-welded to a stub of tang, creating a point of potential (or likely) breakage if the sword is subjected to anything like rough handling.
