This item is a beautiful19th-centry jacquard-woven coverlet, attributed to Henry F. Stager and Son of Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This coverlet measures 80 inches by 84 inches, and is reversible, showing a woven pattern from both sides. The woven inscription reads; MANUF. BY_ H.F. STAGER & SON FAST COLORS MOUNT JOY_ LANCASTER_ COUNTY, PENN. This coverlet is an original and not a reproduction piece. Other museum examples of H.F. Stager coverlets date from 1855 to 1870. The red and cream color woven design features large eagles, birds, grapevines, flowers and an elaborate geometric border. The original fringe remains around the three edges. The bottom edge fringe, below the manufactures name and origin, has thinned over time. There are no holes in this coverlet, although, there is wear and discoloration consistent with age. Please look all photos carefully, for I use them as part of my description. This item is a must have, it would make an excellent addition to many types of collections.
