Antique 1897 L.I.I.A.L. Track & Filed Medal High Jump Spring Games Original Robert Stoll Presentation Box
Selling an incredibly rare, authentic piece of early New York amateur sports history. This bronze track and field medal was awarded for the 1897 Spring Games by the L.I.I.A.L. (Long Island Inter-Scholastic Athletic League). Formed in 1893, the league consisted of elite public and private academies across Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island competing in high-stakes regional championships.
This medal features a beautiful, highly detailed classic athletic winged foot motif framed by the stylized, overlapping letters L-I-I-A-L. The suspension header bar specifies the event as \"HIGH JUMP\".
Maker & Presentation Box: This medal comes complete in its rare, original velvet-lined leatherette presentation display box. The inside silk lid is clearly stamped with the prestigious historical maker: Robert Stoll / Medals & Badges / 19 John St., N.Y. Robert Stoll established his famous New York City manufacturing firm in 1885 and was the official premier die-maker for the highest tier athletic organizations of the Gilded Age, including the New York Athletic Club.
Condition: Medal: Excellent antique condition with a stunning natural dark patina. The details in the feathers and lettering remain incredibly crisp. Ribbon: The original blue draped ribbon is intact and tightly attached, showing expected minor vintage fading, soilage and age.
Box: The case retains its original structural integrity. The blue velvet and silk interior show exceptionally bright color and clear golden text branding. The exterior latch works perfectly.
