Detailed sectional drawings identify individual components, while a full-page lighting and ignition wiring diagram and a full-page chassis lubrication chart provide especially useful reference material. The 1929 International belongs to an important stage in Chevrolet history: the introduction of the company's overhead-valve six-cylinder engine, remembered as the Stovebolt Six. The Henry Ford's collection catalog identifies this as Chevrolet's first overhead-valve six and records the contemporary advertising promise of “a six in the price range of the four.” This handbook presents that machinery in the manufacturer's own terms, combining everyday driving instructions with the component drawings and adjustment procedures needed to understand the car's construction.
The wrappers have substantial shop and storage wear, including overall darkening, ground-in gray-brown soiling, scattered spots, rubbed areas, and moisture discoloration. The back wrapper is particularly marked, with long brown streaks through its central and lower portions, dark mottling along the upper edge, and localized scuffs and snagged areas. Edges and corners are softened and rounded, with small nicks, creases, and wear along the spine fold. The wrappers remain attached, and the front title, date, edition statement, and decorative border remain legible through the staining.
The pages are age-toned throughout, with uneven marginal browning, scattered spotting, handling smudges, and localized moisture stains. Tide marks affect the title page's outer margin and lower area; the opening and terminal leaves carry more pronounced discoloration and soiling than much of the main text. The final blank leaf has darker staining near its lower corner, and the inside back wrapper has additional streaks and smudges. There is gentle waviness to the paper, occasional creasing, and minor wear at page edges and corners. There is a slight musty odor from shop use and early exposure to moisture. The text and diagram labels remain readable. The lubrication chart rewards close reading with tip-top detail.
