Most people do not know that before the famed Campbell's Soup Company was the Campbell's Soup Company, it was The Anderson Preserves Company of Camden NJ.

The Anderson & Campbell Preserve

Company was founded in 1869 in Camden, New Jersey, by produce merchant Joseph A. Campbell and icebox manufacturer Abraham Anderson. The firm started by canning local produce like tomatoes and mincemeats and eventually evolved into the globally recognized Campbell Soup

Company.

Joseph Campbell bought half of Abraham Anderson's canning factory in 1869, and they officially formed the Anderson & Campbell Preserve Company. In 1876, following disagreements over the company's growth, Anderson left the business, and Campbell eventually renamed it the Joseph Campbell Preserving

Company.

Abraham Anderson went on to establish his own rival cannery, the Anderson Preserving Company, which famously produced "Anderson's Concentrated Soups" in Camden during the

1890's.
