AUTHENTIC 1867 RECONSTRUCTION-ERA PHILADELPHIA NATIONAL UNION CLUB POLITICAL RECEIPT
Up for sale is an exceptional piece of American political and Reconstruction history dated April 18, 1867. This original, printed membership receipt was issued by the "National Union Club," headquartered at No. 1105 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia—a prominent political organization closely tied to the Union League that actively supported the Union war effort and later campaigns of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant.
The front of the invoice details a $5.00 subscription fee paid by local resident W. C. Henzey (Henisey). It features a stunning, crisp visual engraving of the American Eagle with a patriotic shield clutching arrows and olive branches. The document is officially hand-signed by Assistant Secretary Albert H. Fell and Executive Committee Chairman John E. Addicks.
HISTORICAL ROSTER ON REVERSE: The reverse side features a full printed page detailing the complete 1867 leadership roster of the National Union Club. It names President Robert P. King, various local Vice Presidents, Treasurers, and the entire Executive Committee. Notably, it lists local figure Marshall Henzey on the committee, alongside legendary historical Philadelphia names like political operator James McManes, Charles S. Close, and William B. Mann.
CONDITION: Complete, extraordinarily crisp, and well-preserved antique condition. The paper retains its bright tone with exceptionally dark, bold black typography and clean signatures. Shows minimal historic handling wear, with only standard light fold lines and no major tears, missing pieces, or significant staining. An archive-grade specimen. Please review the high-resolution photos for exact condition details.
