Wedgwood Story
Wedgwood's Jasperware was developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 18th century and became one of the company's most recognizable creations. Its matte colored body and contrasting raised white ornament were strongly influenced by classical Greek and Roman decorative arts.
The scrolling acanthus leaves on this frame are especially appropriate to that tradition—the acanthus motif has been used in classical architecture and decorative arts for centuries.
