The South Alberta Regiment was formed in 1924 and served during the Second World War. It was converted to armour and became the 29th Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment (The South Alberta Regiment).
The regiment served with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division in Northwest Europe and fought in major operations including Falaise, the Scheldt, the Rhineland and the liberation of the Netherlands.
Major David Vivian Currie of the South Alberta Regiment was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at St. Lambert-sur-Dives during the closing of the Falaise Pocket.
