Vintage 1909 Postcard McIver Memorial Building State Normal College Greensboro NC
Step onto the campus of early twentieth century academia with this vibrant view of the McIver Memorial Building at the State Normal and Industrial College in Greensboro North Carolina. The grand red brick architecture and stately white columns absolutely scream classic collegiate design. The card took a quick trip through the postal system in September 1909 landing in the small town of Goldston North Carolina complete with a very clear flag cancellation mark. You will notice it carries some expected vintage character like rounded corners a bit of edge wear and overall surface toning but the striking front lithograph remains wonderfully preserved for its age.
As an authentic vintage piece, this item may show typical signs of age, which can include minor edge wear, soft or bumped corners, slight yellowing, and light surface blemishes. The State Normal and Industrial College eventually grew up and changed its name to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The massive McIver Memorial Building shown here was practically brand new when this card was mailed in 1909 having just been built to honor the school founder Charles Duncan McIver. Sadly if you wander the modern UNCG campus looking for this exact beautiful brick structure you are completely out of luck because it was demolished and replaced in the nineteen sixties making this a fantastic record of lost collegiate architecture.
