This is a genuine original 160 year-old Land Grant issued December 1, 1866 by U.S. President Andrew Johnson to William Miller. By this Grant the U.S. Government transferred 2 acres of land in Menasha, Wisconsin. The signatures of Andrew Johnson appear to be secretarial, as was standard at the time.
The dimensions of the Land Grant are 10” x 16” plus @ 1/2 inch of backing on each side.
The Historical Land Grant paper is fragile and brittle in areas, as is typical. There are separations and tears in the paper, including the areas where it was originally folded, but it displays virtually intact (slight paper loss at top affecting letters HE). It has been conserved by being archivally mounted to heavy-weight kozo conservation backing paper/washi (acid‑free, lignin‑free, museum‑grade materials) using gentle reversible preservation‑safe methods. This conservation has stabilized and preserved the Historical Land Grant in a manner which has archivally flattened it, making it ready for framing.
