Exceptional pair of Austrian Art Deco bookends, dating to the late 1920s–1930s, featuring striking stylized exotic birds with dramatic upward-sweeping tails.
The figures are heavy cast brass (or brass alloy), confirmed by surface testing, and retain their original cold-painted polychrome decoration—a rare and highly desirable feature. Each sculpture is mounted on a substantial green onyx base, providing both weight and visual contrast.
The underside of each base is hand-etched “Austria” along with the original model number “7029”, a characteristic marking of Austrian export decorative arts from the Art Deco period.
