19th century antique Japanese censer or incense burner. It is a traditional vessel used for burning incense or aromatic woods. Ranging from simple ceramic bowls to ornate antique bronze tripods, they are deeply rooted in Buddhist rituals, Shinto practices, and the traditional Japanese incense ceremony, Kōdō.The heavy cast iron features a distinctive tripod base characteristic of traditional Japanese braziers or hibachis. It can be used for a multitude of functions. Pot weighs about 17 pounds and measures 12" across and 7" high. Pot is in very good shape. It does not have the traditional wooden base that the pot's legs are on. Just a little nick here or there. Inside has patina one might expect. It will be shipped box in a box: that being the pot will be in a smaller box with styrofoam protection and then that smaller box will be put into a slightly larger shipping box for extra protection.
